Jai Courtney (15 March 1986) is an Australian actor best know for Varro in Spartacus: Blood and Sand.

Early Life and Career

Born March 15, 1986 in Sydney, Australia, Courtney & his sister were raised in Sydney's leafy northwest suburbs, attending Galston Public School where their mother, Karen, was a teacher. His father, Chris, was a civil servant with the state electricity company, implying that there were no show business influences in the family when Jai caught the acting bug as a 10-year-old. He went on to develop his dramatic skills at Cherrybrook Technology High School. At 18, Courtney, like many of Australia's finest thespians,, tried & failed to win a place at the country's leading acting school, the National Academy for Dramatic Art

Personal life

Jai had dated actress Gemma Pranita from 2006 to 2013, and after playing Varro in Spartacus: Blood and Sand, he and lead role Andy Whitfield became best friends. He stayed close to Whitfield until his death in 2011, and was hit hard by it. He is still on close terms with Whitfield's wife and children.

From 2015-2022, Courtney dated Mecki Dent, an Adelaide-born PR coordinator. Confirming an engagement in 2020. They had a dog named Velvet.  After splitting, Jai left the dog to Mecki.

Since July 2022, Jai Courtney started dating Arab actress Dina Shihabi, whom he met on the set of the film "Catching dust" in June 2022. In May 2023, their first child (daughter) was born.

Notes

• Both he and Viva Bianca went to the same drama school. Neither know the other would be on the show until they met on set.
• Featured in Inside Film Magazine's 2012 Rising Talent issue. The special feature profiled 25 rising young Australian actors.
